Visit to the European Parlament 13.-16.07.2025
At the invitation of MEP Svenja Hahn, we spent 4 extraordinary days in Brussels. On the 13th, 6 DAFC ladies went to Brussels by bus early in the morning with 50 other participants. After the hotel check-in we got a short city tour before we DAFC ladies went to the restaurant "Aux Armes des Bruxelles" for delicious Belgian food.
The next morning we were taken to the European Commission (EC) where we received a lecture on the work of the EC and the most important EU institutions before visiting the House of European History. In the evening, there was a typical Belgian menu for the whole group before we ended the evening with a beer on the roof of the former stock exchange, overlooking Brussels.
On the 3rd day, we visited the European Parliament. After an informative lecture on the voting processes of the deputies, we were shown the plenary hall from the gallery. Impressive! Equally impressive was the subsequent conversation with MEP Svenja Hahn. Ms. Hahn described how laws are created as well as the handling of the press which sometimes has a greater focus on readership instead of the effort of finding consensus of the 720 EU MEPs from 27 countries. In the wonderfully renovated Hamburg State Building, we received another very interesting lecture before exploring Brussels for a few more hours on our own.
As a sweet conclusion, a chocolaterie was visited the next morning before departure. We had several samples and stocked up on delicious chocolates for the return trip and for our relatives.
Visit to Ernst Berlach Museum 10.07.2025
The DAFC small summer excursion led us this year to the Ernst Barlach Museum in Wedel. Our club member, art historian Dr. Rita Wildegans, gave us an introduction to the works of Ernst Barlach and Käthe Kollwitz on the subject of "War and Peace". The two artists demonstrated their thoughts most vividly with the Barlach sculpture "The Floating Angel" and the "Pietà" by käthe Kollwitz. We had intresting conversations while we sat relaxed for lunch in the restaurant "Wassermühle" in Wedel.
Special tour through the Michel 24.03.2025
We had a wonderful time at the "Michel" Church with the personal guidance of Senior Pastor Alexander Röder. He shared his all-encompassing knowledge with us in a very entertaining and exciting way and vividly explained to us the historical background around the history of the "Michel" Church and the city of Hamburg. We were allowed to look into the "non-public part" of the Michel, into the false ceiling and through the "hidden window" to the altar and the nave. Afterwards, Senior Pastor Röder showed us the "control walk", which is located between the old and the "new" foundation of the Michel, before he told us more anecdotes and historical stories in the crypt. A small, delicious refreshment at the Italian rounded off the tour.
Valentines Lunch at Petit Bonheur 14.02.2025
Since many years we meet for Valentine's lunch at Petit Bonheur. Once agian, the patron Mr. Ergün Uysal and his team spoilt us with outstanding culinary delights. We feasted, chatted and laughed a lot in a relaxed atmosphere that was organized by our club member Doris v. Hermann Spürck.
